This exam is available at our clinics in Town of Mount Royal, Châteauguay and Sainte-Thérèse.
A medical prescription is required to perform this examination.
Please note that MRI examinations are not covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). However, most group insurance plans cover the costs.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate is the test of choice for studying this gland and identifying potential abnormalities, if any. It captures clear and precise images that allow a radiologist to detect conditions such as cystic or tumoural lesions.
This test very often requires an injection of gadolinium, which is administered from a catheter previously installed in a vein by the technologist. The injection is always performed using an automatic injector, allowing dynamic images to be obtained.
For this scan, we will ask you to do the following:
- Lie comfortably on a mobile examination table in a bright, airy room.
- Wear, if you wish, headphones with music or ear plugs. The MRI machine produces percussive noises that some people may find a nuisance.
- Remain still for 30 to 60 minutes until the exam is completed.
The duration of the procedure and noise generated by the machine may make some people uncomfortable. At Imagix™, our technologist can see and hear you at all times and will ensure your comfort and well-being throughout the examination.
To allow you to plan your visit, please keep in mind that the total duration of your visit can vary between 60 and 90 minutes, even if the test itself only lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.
